Mobility – The New Front End to Business Applications for Customers of all Sizes

On the heels of Mobile World Congress in February, many of you may have mobile on the mind. We know that larger businesses are leveraging mobile applications to increase customer, partner and vendor engagement and streamline internal operations. Recent research from the SMB Group indicates 67 percent of SMEs now view mobile solutions and services as “critical” to their businesses.

But there are still some challenges to overcome with small and midsize companies (SMEs). What devices and which apps are proven for a certain business? How can a company efficiently manage its mobile workforce without adding complexity?

The Mobile Management Imperative
According to the SMB Group, a majority of SMEs (83 percent) have already deployed mobile apps to help improve employee productivity, and 55 percent of SMEs are using mobile apps for specific business functions, such as CRM or order entry. Almost half of the survey’s participants are building mobile-friendly websites and/or deploying mobile apps to engage and transact with customers.

However, mobile management has not kept up with the rapid pace of mobile app use or the increased reliance on mobile solutions for business growth among SMEs. Key concerns such as security, manageability, ease-of-use and costs also need to be addressed. This spells opportunity for VARs to team up with a great mobile vendor.

SME Mobility Needs
For efficient mobile management, SMEs need easy-to-deploy, cost-effective mobile device and application platforms and solutions. Solutions that reduce management headaches, while helping SMEs get more value from their mobile investments. 

In answer, the best vendor can address both—the need for business transforming mobile apps, as well as secure management of mobile devices and apps. All this while minimizing the complexity that comes with managed mobility. Three considerations:

  1. Applications can no longer simply be functional, they must be user-friendly and well-designed to initiate and maintain user engagement. A friendly, good looking user interface (UI) is paramount. Scalability is also crucial to application development.
  2. Big Data and the upsurge of personal devices in the workplace create heightened security concerns. Data and mobile transactions must remain secure to prevent any organizational or profit damage.
  3. A strong UI is a key to success with mobile apps. As SMEs grow, so does their product, employee and customer data, so they need an enterprise-grade system that can easily keep up and is easy to use.

Even though the increase of mobile devices can be intimidating at times, the majority of SMEs see the great potential to seamlessly bring together complete business networks and value chains. With the right mobile management platform in place, all of these areas are effectively covered, so SMEs can tap into the full potential of mobility.
