As 2013 comes to a close, we look forward to the new evolution of technologies within the IT channel in the new year—to realize how far we’ve come and what we’ve learned, as well as understand where we’re going next. For those interested in capitalizing on the growing demand for cloud services, the forecast is looking cloudier by the day. There is a tremendous opportunity to capitalize on new endeavors and address the growing need for cloud enablement, education and migration solutions.
As industry analysts such as Gartner and IDC have evaluated, cloud computing is an important development driving the IT market. Now that Internet access has been deemed a basic human right by the United Nations, the possibilities around the Internet of Everything have expanded. Barriers have been broken and new opportunities continually are rising in cloud computing. But are we organizationally ready to expand beyond the basics of cloud? Have we fully and accurately defined the pure cloud ecosystem and revenue surrounding it?
IDC predicts that public IT cloud services will have reached $47.4 billion in 2013 and grow to more than $107 billion by the end of 2017. With growth of more than 23 percent, solution providers need to be prepared—for their own business and for their end user customers. It has become clear that the conversation has shifted from, “Should we use cloud services?” to, “How should we use cloud services?” This new way of thinking and expanded opportunities have reshaped the way we live, and cloud computing is at the forefront of the next wave of expansion.
Education and enablement practices are key to successfully evaluating and fully capitalizing on business opportunities in cloud computing. At Tech Data, we’ve focused on creating firm groundwork for a scalable, practical and value-add distribution model for cloud vendors and reseller partners alike, delivering unique value within the IT channel. Tech Data’s cloud ecosystem is focused strategically on guiding our channel partners and providing them with the right solutions, whether physical or virtual, to grow their cloud practice.
Tech Data’s TDCloud business unit offers an educational platform that gives resellers access to valuable resources—including enablement tools, research and templates—to help grow their business, streamline cloud operations and maximize profits. Through TDCloud, partners such as CompTIA are able to provide resellers with invaluable tools, including educational webinars, marketing and sales kits, sales guides and assessments. As an added value, solution providers have access to a 10-week guide pertaining to cloud, marketing and sales.
In 2013, Tech Data went beyond the basics of cloud education and launched the Executive Certificate in Cloud (intermediate) program. Available through TDCloud and powered by CompTIA, the program offers solution providers a roadmap on profitably integrating cloud-based IT services through an education series that is focused on cloud training. Adding to Tech Data’s TDCloud Academy education, the Executive Certificate in Cloud program offers intermediate level eLearning designed to further educate and enable resellers to move to the next level.
IT solutions are never static, and those with staying power carry tremendous opportunity in their wake as they continue to evolve and adapt to the changing needs of the channel. Solution providers who have an eye on the ever-changing forecast—who anticipate and capitalize on shifts—will continue to dance in the rain of cloud revenue, rather than fear the storm.
With the anticipation of shifting cloud models and promise of application growth, it is important to ensure we are equipping our channel partners with the right tools to succeed. From the data center to the living room, we are anticipating the evolving needs of our channel partners in the always-on, always-connected world in which we live.
