Veeam Launches New Version of Backup & Replication Solution

Hypervisor backup and management software developer Veeam Software has launched the newest version of its solution, Veeam Backup & Replication v7, available now to the channel. Veaam’s technology backs up and manages VMware (VMW) vSphere and Microsoft (MSFT) Windows Server Hyper-V environments.
The new version adds built-in WAN acceleration and backup from storage snapshots.
The company said the new WAN acceleration feature copies data to offsite locations up to 50 times faster than a regular file copy does. It also eliminates the need to purchase and deploy a general purpose WAN acceleration appliance or acquire additional network bandwidth for offsite backups.
The backup from storage snapshots feature, enabled through a partnership with Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ), aims to reduce stress on virtual infrastructure by increasing the frequency of snapshots. This provides more recovery point objectives (RPOs).
Veeam President and CEO Ratmir Timashev (who has previously participated in Talkin’ Cloud’s Friday’s Last Word) said in a prepared statement that more than 73,000 companies already rely on Veeam Backup & Replication.
“Feedback drives our innovation and the response from users has been extremely gratifying,” he said. “From reports of much faster offsite backup to improved RPOs to a host of benefits from other new features, Veeam Backup & Replication is once again answering market needs like no other solution.”
Timashev told The VAR Guy last week that Veeam can become the software industry’s next $1 billion company.
The company charges $750 per socket for Standard Edition, $1,250 per socket for Enterprise Edition, and $1,999 per socket for Enterprise Plus Edition.
In May, Talkin’ Cloud provided a sneak peak of the solution’s features and an update on Veeam’s customer base, which, at the time, was growing by 2,000 customers a month.
