Backupify has announced a new platform designed for SaaS ISVs to quickly integrate Backupify’s data protection and cloud-to-cloud backup functionality into their enterprise apps. The backup and recovery SaaS vendor has launched the platform into beta and has plans for general availability in the second quarter of 2013.
The Backupify Developer Platform is essentially a core set of application programming interfaces (APIs) that will help ISVs and other application developers tie their apps into Backupify’s solutions. To kick things off, Backupify has brought on a handful of ISVs to beta test the platform. The list of partners includes Apptivo, Freshdesk, Mavenlink, Nimble and Pipeline Deals.
According to Backupify CEO Rob May, the company is building on its integration of cloud-based backup and recovery solutions with the likes of Google Apps (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) both of which “taught us that there is tremendous demand in the market for independent data protection for all SaaS applications.”
“Customers and ISVs have approached us over the years to support their SaaS applications, which led us to create the developer platform. We’re excited to work with leading ISVs on the initial integrations,” May said in a prepared statement.
As Backupify takes its new developer platform into beta and prepares for a Q2 launch, the company is looking to bring on ISV partners that develop SaaS applications and are interested in integrating their apps into a backup and recovery solution.
“In an increasingly competitive market, sophisticated buyers are creating a new set of evaluation criteria for selecting SaaS solutions, which is forcing vendors to provide better backup solutions,” said Jeffrey M. Kaplan, managing director of THINKstrategies and the founder of the Cloud Computing Showplace, in a prepared statement. “Backupify is helping SaaS vendors respond to customers’ escalating demands by assuring their data is truly protected and readily available.”
