World Backup Day 2015 gave managed services providers (MSPs) a great opportunity to educate their customers about the importance of backing up personal data.
And even though this year's event has come and gone, MSPs don't have to wait until 2016 to teach customers about the value of data protection.
For example, a new survey from data backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solutions provider Kroll Ontrack revealed 61 percent of data recovery customers had a backup solution in place at the time of data loss.
The survey also showed that among those who had a backup solution in place at the time of data loss:
- 21 percent reported that their backup solution was not operating correctly.
- 21 percent said they did not have their device included in their backup procedure.
- 19 percent reported that their backup solution was not current, reducing the likelihood of retrieving needed data.
Simply deploying a backup solution and hoping for the best is no longer an option for MSPs or their customers, according to Kroll Ontrack Program and Operations Manager Paul Le Messurier.
Instead, service providers should help customers create and deploy backup strategies, and ultimately, stop data loss.
"When nearly three-fourths of respondents confirm they are regularly backing up data yet are still experiencing data loss, the criticality of a complete backup strategy becomes crystal clear," Messurier said in a prepared statement. "This includes regularly validating that your solution is functioning as expected, and frequent testing and monitoring to ensure the backup is current and complete."
Service providers that explain the importance of data BDR, and offer the right combination of services and solutions, can help customers protect their sensitive information at all times.
Of course, there are many ways that MSPs can help customers safeguard their data.
So now the question becomes: What data protection tips do you offer customers?
